Postira

Postira is an idyllic holiday village and municipality on the north side of Brač Island. It is located approximately 10 km east of the island’s capital, Supetar.

Postira and Dol are the only two villages in the municipality, with around 1,500 inhabitants. Postira is by far the largest of the two.

Life in Postira is centred around the port. On the eastern side of the port, the oldest part of Postira can be found, and on the western side, the hotels are located.

Postira’s economy is mainly based on tourism, but the local fish processing company Sardina also contributes substantially to the economy.

My Video from Postira

During my last visit to Postira, I took a walk around the town and visited most of the beaches—you can see them in my video here.

Who should visit Postira?

If you are looking to spend your holiday in a location with plenty of sights and things to do, you should probably not pick Postira, but if you, on the other hand, are looking for a quiet location with a charming town core, Postira should be on your short list.

Postira is best for:

  • People with a car, as this makes shopping and island exploring easier.
  • Couples who like beaches and sun.

The hotels in Postira are also ideal for families with smaller kids.

Beaches Postira

Postira offers several beaches near the centre of the village.

In the port area, you have Porat Beach, a small pebble beach.

A short walk to the east gets you to Rot Beach, which is also a pebble beach with water access for disabled persons.

The next beach towards the east is Balatura Beach, followed by Mala Lozna Beach.

All the beaches mentioned above are within walking distance of the city centre.

To the west, in front of the Hotel Grand View, you have a larger pebble beach called Beach Punta Vrilo. At the end of the bay, you can find another pebble beach, Prja, and between these two beaches, you have areas with concrete.

If you have a car at your disposal, you could also visit the beach Vala Trstena, 3 km east of town, or the best sandy beach on Brač Island, Lovrečina, which is located 5.5 km east of town.

Accommodation Postira

As mentioned, Postira, unlike Povlja, offers not only apartments and villas but also several hotels.

The hotels and some apartments can be booked on the larger booking platforms, but you can get cheaper accommodation if you book directly from the owners. The Tourist Board of Postira has created a detailed map showing all accommodations in the municipality. Click on each icon to see the contact details of the owner.

  • Hermitage Blaca, a remote monastery on the UNESCO tentative list for World Heritage
  • Bol and the Golden Horn beach
  • Other Brač villages like Sutivan, Sumartin, or Milna

In Povlja, there are ruins of a 5th-century basilica next to the church.

If you are travelling without a car, you should take the same ferry route and then catch a bus from the Supetar bus station. Note: Buses are not as frequent as the ferries.
