About

The Story about me and my Youtube Channel
My Croatian journey began over 20 years ago, in 2004, when I moved here and fell in love with the landscapes, culture, and people. After a long career as an entrepreneur, I decided to shift gears in 2024 and pursue my passion for travel and storytelling.
Armed with my GoPros, I’m setting out to do what I once did between 2005 and 2012—travel across Croatia and its neighboring countries. Back then, I captured photos and wrote about the places I visited. This time, I’ll go even further—sharing stories, offering my best travel tips, and, most importantly, creating videos that truly bring these destinations to life.
My YouTube channel is dedicated to showcasing Croatia’s and the neighboring countries’ unique charm. This country isn’t just a tourist destination—it’s an incredible place to live and thrive.
I hope you enjoy the stories and the amazing people featured on this channel and that these videos help you see Croatia in its best light.
What I have been doing in Croatia
At one point in the future, I will shoot a video or a series of videos telling my story of living as a Dane in Croatia. For now, I will just give you some bullet points. So remember to subscribe to my channel if you want to hear all the things I have experienced over the years (Fun, scary, rewarding, hard)
2004: Founded my first company in Croatia; family still living in DK.
2005: Paid expensive “tuition fees” for mistakes made with the company. My Family moved to Croatia at the end of the year.
2006: Founded a second company; the first company started making money. Began traveling around Croatia as part of my business.
2007: The first business continued to grow. Became one of the first expat bloggers writing about Croatia and living here.
2008: The first company grew again. Started building a holiday rental page, but the project failed.
2009: Sold packages for 400-500 customers at the 2009 World Men’s Championships. The first business was still running well.
2010: I traveled extensively in the region and intensified blogging about Croatia. The first business stagnated, and the second had only small revenue.
2011: The first business declined, continuing in the following years. Blogging and traveling intensified. Bought the domain buscroatia.com.
2012: The blogging business grew. Started doing SEO work for external clients. Hired an external developer to build buscroatia.com (backend and frontend) to create a meta-search for bus timetables.
2013: The external developer and two of my first employees joined my second company as co-founders. We started developing GetByBus.com (a booking engine for bus tickets), and BusCroatia.com reached 800,000 visitors.
2014: Signed the first contract with a bus company. GetByBus.com went live, and the first ticket was sold.
2015 – 2020: Full focus on growing GetByBus.com each year, with an increasing number of partners, revenue, profit, and employees, expanding into many new markets.
2017: Made my first angel investment in Mushroomcups.com.
2021: COVID year. Sold GetByBus and other platforms we developed (Ferrycroatia, Buscroatia, GetByFerry, GetByTransfer) but stayed on as CEO.
2022-2023: Still CEO at GetByBus, now part of a global group with 600 employees. Also a contributor/storyteller on many of the above mentioned platforms.
2024: Left GetByBus.com in July(My farewell message to my belowed ❤️ team), took a well deserved break.
What I do today:
Well, well, well, as I mentioned in the intro, traveling around the region, creating stories, and recording videos is a priority for me, so this will be an Important part of my future.
This, of course, does not mean that I do not want to build other companies with an entrepreneurial mindset. I am, of course, already planning my next ventureS, Unfortunately, I cannot reveal what I am working on yet.😉

See You around in the Region!
Morten

Where would you base yourself Porec or Rovinj if spending 5 -7 days? We will have no car.
i have read your blog on all the towns on coast from Pula up which were great for seeing what can do and kinda think the above towns sound more enchanting easy for wandering and not as big as Pula. Plus you say lots of day trips available from these two and can get to see Pula easy if want to head down there.
Could i have your thoughts on where you think is good base, please. Not coming for a beach holiday but to see and explore and have a dip now and then!
So if have any suggestions for hotels or apartments in these two towns that would be great. Plus how to get up from Pula airport to either of these town is it a bus ride or shuttles? Thanks.
Porec and Rovinj are both wonderful places, I am sure you would love it there no matter which one you pick.
For a first time visit I would probably go for Rovinj.
You can move around in Istria using the bus company Arriva, which runs buses between the towns
For apparments and hotels, I do not have any recommendation, there is simply to much to choose between.
From Pula Airport to Rovinj/Porec, either take Bolt / Uber / Private Transfer or take the shuttle from airport to Pula bus station and then catch an arriva bus from there on.
Brgds,
Morten
