Split to Hvar ferry route is among the most popular in Croatia. I visited the sunniest island in Croatia countless times, but this time, it was a bit different. The ferry crew allowed us to come with them and experience the journey from their point of view. Join me on this journey, and let’s head to Hvar town!
This ferry trip from Split to Hvar was indeed very unique. over the years I have traveled a lot of times on this route, but this was the first trip where I sat in a comfortable chair on the bridge talking to the Captain and the crew.
Here are the things I think are helpful to know before you have your virgin journey on this route!
Finding the Hvar Ferry in Split
Fast ferries to Hvar almost always depart from the pier called Gat Sveti Petra, which is the middle pier of the port, the berth numbers are usually 11 and 12, but as I mentioned in my video about the ferry port in Split, it is always advisable to check the electronic displays at the port.
On less busy days, I recommend being at the port 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time; on busy days, you should be there 30 minutes prior
Boarding in Split
Regarding boarding, you should know that the fast ferries only have one Gangway, so if there are many travelers, it takes some time to get everyone on board (the fast ferries can take up to 350 passengers).

This also means you have to stand in line in the sun.
You have to carry your suitcase on board, as It cannot be rolled up the gangway.
Suitcases are stored in (at times way too small) luggage areas on the boat, so do not pack anything fragile, as it might end up below a stack of other suitcases.
About Tickets and Timetables
Here is what you should know about Tickets and timetables
Two arrival ports connect to Hvar Town. The primary one, Hvar Town Port, offers the most frequent departures and brings you directly to the Riva in the heart of Hvar. The second port, Vira Hvar, is located about 10 minutes from the town center. From Vira Hvar, a free shuttle bus is available to transport travelers to the Hvar Town bus station.
3 companies are serving the route from Split to Hvar, Jadrolinija, TP Line, and Krilo Kapetan Luka, all 3 companies sell tickets online and at the port in Split.

If you are not sure about when to travel, I recommend you use a site like GetByFerry.com to check the timetable for all 3 companies above (Disclaimer: I used to be the CEO of the company that made GetByFerry)
During the Summer season, there are around 15 daily departures. In Winter a minimum of 1 daily departure.
The majority of departures have a price of around 25 Euro for a one-way adult ticket. 2 Departures are state lines (Subsidized lines), and they are considerably cheaper.
It is not possible to book a seat on the Fast Ferries, seating is done according to first come first serve principle.
Other ways of Getting to Hvar town
Although the ferry route from Split to Hvar is incredibly convenient, there are alternative ways to travel to Hvar Town.

Each year, I usually spend a week or two at my favorite hidden spot on Hvar. Since I bring a car, I take the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad instead. The journey takes about two hours, and upon arrival, buses are readily available at the port to take you to Hvar Town or other destinations on the island.
Other tips
If you’re arriving at Split Airport, the most budget-friendly way to reach Hvar Town is by taking the airport shuttle to the Split bus station, located just 100-200 meters from the Fast Ferry departure point.

The port on the Riva in Hvar is in a no-car zone, so be aware you have to carry your luggage upon arrival.
I find taxis quite expensive on Hvar, so find somewhere to stay within walking distance of the city.
