Dubrovnik wall and old townCroatia is one of Europe’s most UNESCO rich countries. A small nation on the Adriatic with an outsized number of sites recognised for their outstanding universal value — ancient Roman palaces, medieval walled towns, fortresses, national parks, and Greek colonial settlements that have been inhabited for over two thousand years. This collection covers the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Croatia that I have visited personally, as well as places currently on the tentative list that are well worth your attention.

You will find the big names here: Plitvice Lakes, Diocletian’s Palace in Split, the Dubrovnik Old Town and its famous walls, Trogir, and the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč. But also some that surprise people — the Stari Grad Plain on Hvar, one of the best preserved ancient Greek agricultural landscapes in the world, the UNESCO listed Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik, the St. Nicholas Fortress outside Šibenik, and the historic city walls of Zadar. Each article comes with a YouTube video so you can see the sites for yourself before you go.

What makes Croatia’s UNESCO story particularly interesting is the tentative list. Several Croatian sites are currently in line for full inscription, meaning there are places you can visit today that the world may formally recognise tomorrow. That combination of confirmed heritage and emerging recognition makes exploring UNESCO Croatia genuinely rewarding for anyone who cares about history, architecture, and natural landscapes.

New articles are added as I continue visiting and covering sites across Croatia, so this page grows over time.
