Visiting Plitvice LakesCroatia has eight national parks and they represent some of the most extraordinary natural landscapes in Europe. From the cascading turquoise lakes of Plitvice to the island archipelago of Kornati, from the waterfalls of Krka to the rugged peaks of Paklenica, the variety is remarkable for such a small country. If the national parks of Croatia are on your radar, this is where you will find honest first-hand accounts of what each one is actually like to visit, with a YouTube video for every park covered.

So far the collection includes three of Croatia’s eight national parks. Plitvice Lakes, the largest and most visited national park in Croatia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, explored on the longest walking trail with an overnight stay at the park hotel. Krka, the second most popular national park, covered in detail with two boat trips, a two-hour walk at Skradinski Buk, a visit to Visovac Island and the cascading waterfalls at Roški Slap. And Kornati combined with the Telašćica Nature Park on Dugi Otok — one of the most dramatic boat trip experiences in the Adriatic, with the sheer cliffs of Telašćica among the most spectacular sights on the entire Croatian coast.

Croatia’s remaining national parks — Paklenica, Risnjak, Sjeverni Velebit, Brijuni and Mljet — are all on the list to visit and film. Each one has its own distinct character, from the karst canyons and rock climbing of Paklenica to the untouched island forests of Mljet to the mountain wilderness of Risnjak and Sjeverni Velebit. When those articles are published they will appear here, making this collection a complete personal account of all eight national parks in Croatia.

New parks are added as I visit and film them, so it is worth checking back.

Kornati and Telascica

I finally made it! Kornati National Park has been on my bucket list since I started traveling around Croatia in 2006. Despite receiving several invitations over the years, I never managed to find a day for a trip. My trip with Maslina Tours not only included a visit to Kornati
