Supetar, located on the northern side of the Island of Brač, is the largest town, the administrative center, and the main traffic hub on the island.
I have visited Supetar many times during my years living in Croatia. Some visits have been day trips, some have been short lunch or coffee stops before continuing to other places on the island, and some have been shorter holidays in the town itself.
From my balcony in Split, I can see Supetar and enjoy watching the ferries crossing between the two cities.
Below, you can read my take on Supetar, and here you can watch my video.
Supetar facts and more

What to do in Supetar
Supetar is a place for relaxing and enjoying the beach, but in and around Supetar, you can also:
- Stroll around the small streets, climb the bell tower, or just enjoy a coffee, lunch, or dinner in one of the many restaurants in the port area.
- Ride a bicycle to Splitska and Postira, or in the opposite direction towards Sutivan and Milna. I tried both directions and found them great trips.
- Visit the Park Prirode Supetar (Mini Zoo), where you can see native animals, peacocks, and parrots. (Map Location)
- Visit the Olive Oil Museum in Škrip, where you can learn about the history of olive oil on the island and, of course, try some excellent olive oil. (Map Location)
If you want a full-day trip, visit Bol and other villages on the island of Brač. You should also go to Vidova Gora, the highest peak, and the Blaca Monastery, which (in addition to the car drive) includes a 40-minute hike.
Additionally, you can visit the Stonemason School in Pučišća, where you can learn about this traditional craft and how it is passed down to the next generation.
Beaches Supetar
Most people do not consider Supetar a beach destination, but Supetar actually has some great beaches, including a really nice sandy one.
Next to the ferry port, you have the new Acapulco Beach.
On the other side of Supetar Bay, you have the very popular Banj Beach, which is pebbly when entering the water but turns to a sandy bottom after a few meters.
The next beach north of town is Tri Bridges Beach. This pebbly beach is the main one by the Waterman hotel resort. On Tri Bridges Beach, you can rent jet skis, SUPs, and other equipment and try various water activities. Along the beach, you can find bars and eating places.
The last beach is the sandy Vela Luka, which has shallow water perfect for smaller kids. I have added some photos from these beaches.

Accommodation Supetar
Supetar has several hotels, most of which are located on the peninsula at the northern end of Supetar Bay. Here you can find the Waterman Resort and several Aminess hotels. The top hotel is Hotel Osam (8), located on the promenade by the port.
I have always stayed in apartments when visiting Supetar. There is a great selection, all within walking distance of the port.

My take on Supetar
Supetar is often considered just a hub for reaching other places on the Island of Brač. I think Supetar deserves much more attention as a real holiday destination.
With the frequent ferries to Split, Supetar is a cheaper alternative for accommodation if you wish to visit Split on a budget.
Supetar is a great day trip destination from Split—no car needed, just jump on the car ferry or the fast ferry.
The sandy Vela Luka Beach and the partly sandy Banj Beach are great for kids.
