Korcula to Split Ferry trip

Join me on the 2 hour and 30 minute long sailing trip from Korcula town to Split. Unfortunately, the sun decided to hide on the day we travelled, but nevertheless it was a beautiful trip.

Here is what I find good to you should know before taking the ferry from Korcula to Split.

Finding the Split Ferry in Korcula

The fast ferry from Korcula to Split usually departs from the pier east of the old town, but occasionally, it might also depart from the pier west of the old town. The operator, Kapetan Luka, has the following statement on the website: “For exact information, please check at Agency “Korčula” 30 minutes before departure.”

Except for one departure, all the fast ferries from Korcula to Split do not start from Korcula; the ferry would arrive from, e.g., Dubrovnik (Like we did) or Hvar and then do a 10-minute stop to unload and load passengers.

From personal experince i have only travelled to and from the pier east of the old town. But better check to be sure.  NOTE: If you travel with TP Line and buy a ticket online, they will send you a tracking link for the ferry.

Boarding Korcula

Once you know where the ferry will depart, you should be at the departure location 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. (At that time, you should already have purchased a ticket.)

Boarding can take a bit of time in the peak season, as most ferries only have one gangway, and they first need to unload passengers before you can board the ferry.

All ferries have free seating, so once onboard, grab a window seat for the best views.

Operators and Timetables

On the ferry route from Korčula to Split, there is one state-subsidized service operating year-round (that’s the one I took in the video above). From April, there are three daily departures, and in peak season, up to six daily departures between the cities.

3 different ferry companies operate the ferries, so to get a full picture of your travel options on any travel date, you should check the following websites.

The travel time from Korcula town to Split varies; the shortest trip is about 2 hours and 30 minutes, while the longest takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. The reason for the difference is that the ferries have different routes on the way to Split.

Tickets and Prices

The state-subsidized line is by far the cheapest. On my trip, I paid 8.68 € for a one-way adult ticket; in peak season, this line costs 11,68 €, and the other departures range from 25-30 €. The cheapest line departure is at 6 AM.

All 3 companies sell tickets online, but if you prefer to buy at a physical location, these are the addresses of the selling points for the 3 ferry companies:

  • Kapetan Luka – Korkyra Info at Trg Petra Šegedina 3a
  • TP LINE – Rent a Đir, Obala hrvatskih mornara bb
  • Jadrolinija – Agency Korčula, Plokata 21.travanja 1921. br. 34

On the state-subsidized line, there are reduced prices for kids. I cannot recall, but I also think the other routes have cheaper tickets for kids under a certain age.

Other Ways of Getting from Korcula to Split

If you have been following my Youtube Channel or this page, you probably know that we went on a 5-day mini-holiday on Island Korcula last year. That time, we got to the island by taking the car ferry from Split to Vela Luka; the opposite direction could work as an alternative when travelling back to Split. To do so, you need to take the bus from Korcula Town to Vela Luka. (Note: There is also a daily fast ferry from Vela Luka to Split.)

Other information and Tips

As shown in the video, the ferry we took had plenty of luggage storage in a rack system. However, not all ferries have that, so avoid packing anything fragile in case your suitcase ends up at the bottom of a pile.

Regardless of which departure you choose, you’re in for a scenic trip. Stops along the way to Split may include Hvar Town, Bol on Brač Island, Milna on Brač Island, and Makarska..

During most of the summer season, the sea is relatively calm. However, if you don’t have a seaman’s blood in your veins, you might want to consider taking a seasickness pill—especially on windy days.

Have a nice trip!
